The butterflies have settled firmly into my stomach. Tuesday morning is just about 48 hours away and I have that constant feeling like I may throw up at any moment between now and then. I think you all know what I am talking about! It's not so much the kids I'm worried about. It's all the stuff that must be accomplished in those first days. All the stuff that I have some how completely forgotten about since September 2013! My brain was so cluttered with all this "stuff" that it took me a bit to wrap my head around a Weekend Warrior post. Then I got down to the basics...Like what is the first thing I will teach in the first moments on the first day?!? And this little post was born!
One of the very first things I always teach is from Whole Brain Teaching. I am by no mean at WBT guru, but I use quite a bit of it in my class and it WORKS! Like for real!
I have to teach "Class? Yes!" from WBT right out of the gate! It's a simple concept. You say "Class?" and they return with "Yes!".

I love to do it a million ways.
Class? Yes!
Class? Class? Class? Yes! Yes! Yes!
Class? Class? Classity Class? Yes! Yes! Yessity Yes!
Class my Class? Yes my Yes!
Class to the Class? Yes to the Yes!
Oh Class? Oh Yes!

It is such an effective way to get everyone's attention in 2 seconds. WBT has you follow "Class? Yes!" with another call and response. I then say "Hands and Eyes?" and the kids repeat "Hands and Eyes!". I then know I have everyone's attention and we can move on with the wisdom I am about to impart!

I made a fun little visual for our first days together!

The first I ever heard of WBT was from this video.
This girl is just magical! I want to be a first grader in her class!

Here's a great first day of first grade video from Mrs. Shipley!
She rocks at WBT!

Welcome to the Back to School COOL edition of
Weekend Warriors!
We are all in the thick of it now, huh? Setting up rooms, connecting with families, labeling everything, making a million masking tape circles....are you all with me on this?? I am dead tired and our kids haven't even started yet. We had two "teacher days" this week, but the real exhaustion starts Tuesday. It's such a shock to the system, isn't it? I am dreading it! But let's celebrate with Weekend Warrior goodness!
In the flurry of classroom prep I realized I had no birthday display. Eek! That's a first grade disaster right there! In the past I've written names on cupcakes. But, our population has become more transient where I work so I wanted something where I could simply write the name on if we had a mid-year move in (aren't those just the best?).

Want your own set of these birthday cuties? Grab here!

Hi De Ho Good Neighbors!
I always feel like Wilson from Tool Time whenever I start a blog post.
Anyway...the super sweet Stephanie from Falling into First is having a great Meet the Teacher linky. Stephanie is adorable! I met her briefly in Vegas and she's a delight. So this linky is all about getting to know me just a little bit better! Number One- I am always late to party! As you can tell by me linking up eons later than hoped. I used to be much more timely, but then I got married and had three kids. The rest is my history of being perpetually late!
I live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. If you aren't down with your New England geography I live on that little arm that sticks out of Massachusetts into the Atlantic Ocean.
Think beaches, lighthouses, lobster roll, boats and ice cream. That's Cape Cod.
We are also where the Pilgrims landed before they settled on Plymouth.
Ok, Geography lesson is complete!
I spent many a summer on the Cape at my grandparents' house. But after I met my husband whose a real live Cape Codder we decided to call this place home! At first it took some adjusting because everything is just far enough away, but now that we have kids I love it here! Speaking of kids we have three. I love them loads and they drive me nuts in equal amounts.
Here we are just this weekend at my brother's wedding!

I am going into my 8th year in first grade. What the what?
I taught 1 year in Kindergarten before moving on to first.
I am dying to try my hand at second grade though!

Moving on to the...

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...
My family. My friends. The beach. Pinot Grigio. Smirnoff Ice. Pizza. Ice Cream. Shopping. Target. Arbonne Fizzy Sticks. All things Apple. My tv shows. Reading easy books.
Crying at books and movies.
Quiet time. A clean house.
The last two are figments of my imagination!

IF YOU WEREN'T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
A Broadway Dancer! I really wanted to do this until I found out you had to be able to sing and you had to live in NYC (eww...sorry New Yorkers). I did teach dance full time after college, but there were no dance teaching jobs that offered benefits. Rats! So I went into elementary teaching. I now get to use my classroom as my stage. I continue to dabble in dance here and there, but I am just over the top busy with life right now. I hope to someday be the little old lady in the back of a tap class having a grand time for herself!

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Funny. Kind. Helpful.

FINISH THE SENTENCE, "________,  SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!"
"I'd really love to tie your shoes that you just walked all over the bathroom floor in...said no teacher EVER!!"

Q: IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE {DEAD OR ALIVE} TO THE PARTY. WHO ARE YOU INVITING?
I've always wanted to do lunch with the Hollywood moms who I think would be fun to chat and hang out with. I'd invite- Jennifer Gardner, Reese Witherspoon, Emily Blunt (mostly to chat about John Krasinski) Jessica Alba, Rachel McAdams and Amy Adams.

Q: IF SOMEONE WROTE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?
These Are The Days

Q:YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?
I snap my fingers and my house, yard, car and classroom are all clean and organized!

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?
"Be a problem solver."
I'm also a huge fan of this one I made up to the tune of Bob Marley's "One Love"
One mom, Two arms...This one mom has just two arms because I'm just one mom

Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Total Eclipse of the Heart
Now every mirror would crack because I have the worst singing voice in the world. And I gifted that terrible voice to my children through the magic of DNA. But in my own mind I sound damn good! I've loved that song ever since I would crank it up on my Walkman in 1987!

Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?
NIGHT OWL!! Although kudos to me because I've been getting up for the gym around 5:30 many days this summer. I know you are all clapping for me right now...Thanks! Fingers crossed I can keep it up during the school year.

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE THAT YOU'VE CREATED IN YOUR TPT SHOP?

I just finished a Dolch sight word practice program that I am psyched about
and it is going to get its very own post really soon!

Thanks for stopping by and learning more about me!

I love a good sale!
And the TpT sale was no joke people!!
This is my most favorite part the school year!!
I love the shopping, the set-up, the planning!
My class is still perfect in my mind....

I've joined those Blog Hoppin' gals' linky to share with you my haul!

First up I bought two awesome products from the sweetest gal ever! If you don't follow Melissa at First Grade Smiles you are missing out! She's so sweet and her products are awesome.
I've had her Meaningful Math in my cart for awhile now. With the new school year approaching I know my math routine needs some bettering! Meaningful Math Is going to help with this in so many ways. I love her "Number of the Day" pages because they are engaging without be too overwhelming to students. There are a variety of choices to help differentiate!
Click the cover to check it out!

I also snagged Melissa's Phonics "Phriends"
She had me at "friends". So cute! I'm a sucker for stuff like that.
You all know how much I love love love phonics.
I could not resist this adorable product.
She made a little family out of the short vowels!!
How fun is that?

I also was sure to snag Write On! Fall Edition by Aimee over at Primarily Speaking. I used her Write On! Spring Edition earlier this year and LOVED it! It is an amazing product. She covers the three kinds of writing for each month. There are organizers, published work papers, crafts and more! She makes my least favorite thing to teach a real no brainer!

And of course there was a ridiculous amount of clipart purchased as well. I may single handedly be keeping Educlips in business!
