Mentor Texts...Currently Linky...and "We have a Winner"!

Packing a lot into one post tonight! And I want to share with you this post is coming from the bottom bunk in my son's room. About once a week my husband or I have a sleepover in his room. He loves it so much! But I digress....Lots to share tonight...

First up I am linking up with Collaboration Cuties for their Must Read Mentor Text linky. I love the idea of mentor texts in the classroom. Spending a few days or a week on one book with the class is an awesome way to teach them how to really sink their teeth into the stories and connect with books. I just love this method of teaching.

Without further ado my book is....

Otis is the story of a cow and a tractor and their friendship. It work great with students because it reminds them of how friendship is not always easy, happy or carefree. Sometimes we need to work at friendship and help our friends through tough times. We spend so much time at the beginning of the year focusing on what makes a good friend that this book fits in perfectly.
I do have a little something something in my TPT store for this book if your starting to plan for the fall.

Lots of Otis goodness here and an adorable craft too. When we shared our favorite parts of first grade at the end of the year I had several kids say Otis (can you see the one happy tear streaming down my cheek?).  I did this story in April, but I think I will definitely do it earlier this year.
It also works great with a farm unit too!
Check out this post for more about our adventures with Otis and an awesome video of Otis onstage!

It is July already- How did that happen? The saddest part...I haven't even been to the beach yet. The weather here has been so yucky!! But, moving on...
I am listening to the little men in my computer work so hard to keep it running. I know this computer is going to quit on us soon. Can't wait to get a new one!
Tonight we got out with some friends to see a local singer/musician. I loved it. He is so fun and rockin'! I love my children, but it is really nice to get out with adults sometimes. We might need to make this into a Sunday tradition for the summer!
I am thinking about how I always have a million projects at home and school. If anyone wants to come to Cape Cod for a vacay- you can stay with me...go to the beach in the day...and help organize at night!
I am wanting the little one to stop making me crazy around the house. Things weren't too bad until she figured out how to work the baby gate this week! Aaack! I just keep saying "This too shall pass...this too shall pass."
Therefore I am needing some free time because I am doing a lot of chasing around these days. This will pass, right?
My tip is similar to others out there but, we can't compare ourselves. I am always reminding myself that I have 3 small children and a husband that works very long hours especially in the summer. I can't get it all done. People have different degrees of available time to blog, comment, create on tpt, pin, etc. Mine is at 0 degrees. And that's ok! We do what we can do. There's always tomorrow. I do have to say I love instagram for this very fact. It's so quick and easy! Feel free to follow me there! I'd love it!! Just click the cute little camera icon on the top right at the top of my blog.

The winner of my bloglovin' giveaway is the one and only Molly Lynch at Lucky to be in First

  1. I love your tip! I am always reminding myself of this! I have two little guys and a husband that also works long hours. It is hard to not have the time to get everything done that you want to do...but the time with family is the most important!

  3. I seriously love your tip! After blog stalking, I always feel like I'm not doing enough. I have to remember that I'm only one person. I can't do all the great activities that folks blog about. :)

  4. Great tip! Also, I had never heard of Otis, but it looks super cute. I am pinning this post to remind me to further check out that book.

  5. Two is such a fun age! ;) I taught a class of toddlers in daycare once and it was like a constant game of whack-a-mole-one would pop up, you'd get them settled, up another would come. :) I love Otis too-I think another theme is that sometimes new can't replace the old stand-bys.

  6. Woooohoooooo! Winning your giveaway (and your kind words!) made my week, friend! I'm definitely going to check out Otis!!

  8. I feel your pain with a two year old also. I agree 100% that you cannot compare yourself to others. We all just do the best we can! Hope you have a great summer.
